Academy of Theatre Arts

OVERVIEW

The Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School Academy of Theatre Arts is one of the most innovative academies at VAPA.  The Academy offers many classes and groups including one of VAPA's signature programs, Writing for Musicals. In the Writing for Musicals class, students create original plays and musicals including the book, script, music, and lyrics. Each Spring the Original Musicals Showcase features productions created, performed, directed, and produced by students. Other classes include Movement for Actors, Costume Design and Production, Musical Theatre Workshop, and Theatre Company. Typically, a play or musical is presented by the Theatre Company each Fall and a musical each Spring. Past productions include High School Musical, Disney Opening Act, Elf, Aladdin, Little Shop of Horrors, the Seussification of Romeo and Juliet, Real Life (25th Anniversary Reunion), the Breakfast Club, and In the Heights (workshop).
